Finnish strikers, demonstrators outraged by govt. cutbacks

In Finland, tens of thousands of strikers have protested against harsh austerity measures proposed by the Finnish government to end a three-year economic downturn.

Around 30-,000 people demonstrated at the Central Railway Station in the capital Helsinki. Also a strike halted the country's public transportation and shut down postal and harbor services and some domestic flights. The Finnish strikers are protesting government cutbacks, including limits to holiday benefits and overtime pay. Last week, Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila announced plans to revive the eurozone member's slumping economy after three years of recession. Sipila said the plan is indispensable to increase productivity by reducing labor costs.
